Second Shooting: The Ward Wedding

I’ve decided I will start sharing some of my second shooter images on the blog! Now, some of you have probably seen me use the phrase “second shooter,” but don’t really know what it means. That’s okay!

Most wedding photographers have at least two people covering a wedding. There’s the lead photographer, who is often the one who owns the business and is initially contacted by the bride or groom and then there is the second shooter. This person is typically hired by the lead photographer to help cover the wedding.

Having a second shooter is vital for a wedding’s success. The second allows for the primary photographer to perform at their best and cater to their couples in a more direct way. Often the second will cover details, the groomsmen, and reception so the primary can really focus on making sure the couple and bridal party is properly photographed. These are often atmospheric and environmental images or photos of the bride and groom taken up close or from the side. Personally, I love being a second shooter for wedding and I love hiring second shooters for weddings as well. It allows me to shoot stress free and I don’t have to worry about the editing afterwards too! The second shooter typically gives all the photos to the primary and the primary will edit all the photos from the wedding in their brand/style.

If you have questions about second shooting, let me know and I would loveee to tell you more! In the mean time, here are a few of my favorite shots from The Ward wedding with Christa Robey Photography - enjoy!
